Talk to Next50 before making decision to apply. They are very helpful in clarifying their priorities. The Flexible Support program sounds awesome and very worth exploring.

Have had one interchange and can think of no suggestions for improvement.
This funder appears accessible, a welcome change from other foundations where everything is on-line except enough information to know whether to apply or not.

We appreciate you taking time to write a review. You are right, we encourage interested applicants to talk to us prior to submitting an application. While not required, we have found these conversations to be an opportunity for learning, relationship building, and ensuring alignment. Please do not hesitate to reach out to us if you have any additional questions or would like to discuss further your organization's work with older adults. Thank you again.

I think NextFifty Initiative fills a niche that is very needed. I have the sense that there is more opportunity for funds than maybe I dared to apply for. I think they are cutting edge. Think big! Don't be too shy.

NextFifty is innovative and open-minded. I think they welcome hearing from you!
Think big. Be conscientious about your data, but don't be shy to ask for what you want versus just what you need.
Representing rural America, it is hard to find sources for grants. The non-profits in rural areas are small, but that makes them that much more important and needed. I think NextFifty recognizes that, but it is daunting to see how much money they have given certain organizations when small nonprofits struggle in rural areas to get the services we need.
I was impressed with the follow up on the grant awards. The person connection. In many cases, a funder allocates a grant and then requests a report, but there isn't any opportunity to actually connect meaningfully. I think NextFifty Initiative tries to do that.

Thank you for your feedback. Yes, please do not be shy! Both in terms of reaching out directly and requesting the funding that you believe you need. Also, you are right--we do welcome hearing from potential applicants, grantees, and community members and thoroughly enjoy these opportunities for connection. Thank you for telling us how it feels to see some organizations receiving more funding than others. We do have an interest in funding rural organizations and we'll continue our own education about and outreach to rural areas.

Thank you for taking the time to write a review. We are always happy to support mission-aligned organizations but also will remain open to funding organizations who do not have a mission focused on older adults. Details are important to us and we are also learning to be more flexible in our funding and processes. We recommend contacting us with any questions or to speak with a Program Officer. Our email is [email protected] and we can be reached by phone at 303-547-1800. Thank you again for the feedback.

Next Fifty Initiative is not only an incredible organization for the work they are doing, but the support they have provided to Steamboat Creates has helped us to thrive during two of the most challenging years of our organization's history (due to COVID).
We highly recommend working with Next Fifty Initiative. They are quick to respond, walk you through the process and reporting and are a pleasure to work with!!!

Their webinars help contextualize the issues of prejudice for those over fifty. Our constituency is over 80% over fifty years old. Next Fifty's conversations around hiring, language and communication are tools we currently use and will continue to use well into the future.

Thank you for the feedback. We’re sorry you had a negative experience with us. We acknowledge that philanthropy has its flaws and, while we are working to address these flaws in some meaningful ways, we don’t get it right all the time. We value learning and are committed to continually learning from our grantees and others about how we can improve. We would be grateful to learn more about what led to your negative experience. There are two ways for you to do this. You can contact us by emailing [email protected] or by calling 303-547-1800 and we will get back to you to listen and learn from you. If you would prefer an anonymous option, you can write another review on GrantAdvisor and share more details about your experience and ideas for improvement. If you are willing to provide this information through either of these avenues, then we will discuss your feedback as a team and do what we can to improve. Thank you again for your candid feedback and taking the time to write a review.

They have made a huge difference in our ability to reach so many unserved older adults.
Create a Word template we can fill in and then just cut and paste. It takes a lot of time to do this for each grant but is necessary to stay organized.
Communicate.

It is advisable to speak to the program officers and learn as much as you can about the grant for which you are seeking funding. Make sure it aligns with funding priorities. My experience has been that the program officers are accessible, knowledgeable and genuinely want to help current and potential grantees. They can steer you in the right directions to enable you to make the best use of your time and efforts.

I have not had a need to reach out to my program officer much, but when I have, access has been no issue. Messages are returned promptly and I've not ever been made to feel as if my questions were a burden.

NextFifty Initiative is helping to transform the narrative around aging and longevity by supporting organizations and work that address these topics in innovative and substantive ways.
As other funders shift their priorities away from aging initiatives, the challenge of securing needed resources for aging-focused nonprofits becomes heightened. Please consider making general operating grants a continuing option for organizations in the aging space.
NextFifty Initiative has identified its niche as an organization that supports innovative aging programs and remains a reliable source of support for organizations in this area. NFI is not merely a transactional partner, but really seeks to be a thought partner as well to the organizations it supports.

Thank you for taking time to provide feedback. We are glad you found us to be accessible, as this is one of our priorities. We recognize that limited resources are available to support aging issues from philanthropy and we take seriously our role in supporting nonprofits focused on improving the lives of older adults. Furthermore, we appreciate you letting us know of the value of general operating grants for organizations like yours.
