Good
The program team is easily accessible and responsive to inquires.

The grant portal is not user-friendly, for instance the text boxes are very small making it difficult to review and update text before submission.
I love the in-person visits with the Racine Community Foundation's board members.

It's a good idea to find out what their process is with the grant application, it could be a two step process and you do not want to miss the deadlines. The organization is easy to work with when you know the process.

Meeting with a representative and to ask about the priorities and an amount that would be considered is important before you write the LOI and proposal.

Make sure you look into the documentation that you need if you aren't a nonprofit and you have a fiscal receiver, because that paperwork could take time to gather.

I've been able to get ahold of someone when I've needed to without difficulty, and they've been gracious when I've been very stressed about some element of the grant which was a real kindness.
Good
I'm thrilled to see the other grantees from RCF, they're all organizations doing positive work in Racine.
The directions and requirements are very clear and straightforward.

The grant process has 3 parts to it: a letter of intent, the grant itself, and an in-person interview, so be prepared for this to take some time. Make sure you know what's in your budget; they sometimes ask very detailed information during the in-person interview. Everyone we've met with RCF is really nice, so it should be a pleasant experience.

It can be challenging for grant-writers to meet during the work day for the in-person interview, so flexibility to meet evenings and weekends would help a lot.

Remember that the letter of intent is due at the end of the year before you may be invited to apply. It is a straightforward and relatively simple application, just be sure to review all details thoroughly.
