Read through the guidelines and plan ahead. Put the same care and energy into the follow-up report as the grant application if future applications are a possibility.

The Racine Community Foundation is very aware of this area's many needs. They require a letter of intent/preliminary application before you are invited to submit a full proposal. While this may be considered "extra work" it allows the requesting organization to "introduce" the issue they are requesting in a shorter format, rather than completing a full application. Being invited to apply is not guarantee that your proposal will be funded. They will also, at times, ask you to request less via the proposal than you did via the pre-application process.

Align your grant request with well -planned future needs. Since, in some cases, the time between the L of I and the actual application can be long, you must establish what your future needs will be. If your organization has received a grant in the past we believe it is helpful to include All outcomes that have positively impacted our community.

Since they went to the process of a letter of intent in order to get the opportunity to even submit a grant, I have been turned down. Prior to that my organization received grants regularly. I am at the point of not wanting to waste my time. I understand they can't fund everyone but in looking at who and what they are funding, they tend to give to larger projects and projects with multiple partners. That's not to say they do not give to single organizations sometimes.

Pros

Friendly

Review the grant materials in advance, prior to submitting a letter of intent. This is not a grant that can be written at the last minute. Specific questions are asked within the application and should be shared with the nonprofit board to gain a consensus on moving forward with the grant application. In this way, the grant writing experience is worthwhile, strategically focused and productive. The end result is well worth it!

Pros

Positive leader in the field, Builds relationships, Responsive

I would share that the grant process is simple and straight-forward; however, the process is also quite competitive. All applications should be thorough in order to be strongly considered.

Pros

Positive leader in the field
