They seem very careful with their money and the process. They clearly meet their philanthropic goals if you consider who they've funded.
They might consider that a site visit is an important way for them to understand the agencies they fund.
I feel they are accessible via email and they seem very organized.

If the funder had a workshop for grant writers to review their applications before submission, perhaps this could help clarify the details of an application in correlation to what The Foundation grants .

Money is being gifted to charities and organizations, so it seems successful from the media campaigns.

The Gilroy Foundation makes it very easy to apply for a competitive grant each year. I highly recommend that teachers in the Gilroy area take full advantage to all of the opportunities that the Gilroy Foundation offers. This organization continues to make a positive difference to the residents of Gilroy.

Keep up the great communication. The email blasts are great.
A huge asset to the community.
They are a very visible part of the community. Not just in awarding grants, but through everything they do with and for Gilroy.

Just fill out the easy to understand application. Have a good reason for the grant within the Gilroy community - what impact will it have?

We found the foundation staff to be very responsive and helpful in clarifying and answering any questions we had regarding the application wording and process. Our organization had a committee of 3 individuals working on the application to assure it was filled out thoroughly and accurately, with the most updated/complete costs on the Project Budget.

The funder is very clear on their goals to support the needs of the community and "Give where you live". They read all applications carefully for how the project aligns with their goals.
The mid-December submission date was a challenge, as it occurs during the busy holiday season. Perhaps a submission date in the middle of November would be more supportive.
Funder consists of individuals who have personally volunteered many hours of their own time and resources to the betterment of the Gilroy community. They've lived and often worked in the community for many years and take pride in giving back. They were true to their timeline in notifying us of acceptance and delivery of grant money.
The funder uses their available funds to support many deserving non-profits who are acting to address issues specific to Gilroy. The Gilroy Foundation is essential to funding many organizations that have limited resources for serving Gilroy.

Don't be disappointed if you are not funded the first time. The competition is fierce for a very limited amount of funding. We were turned down the first 5 years before we received anything. Even though it's a relatively small community foundation, the competition is fierce for funding.

You are doing a great job AND all the nonprofits need more money. :)
Just know it is very competitive to get any money. Don't assume because it's a small town foundation that competition is small for a grant. It's not.
This funder helps a very wide variety of local causes and rallies the community together to support nonprofits.

1. Put the application process online. 2. Do not ask applicants to use your budget template. A copy of our budget should be sufficient.
Foundation personnel are very helpful and friendly.
