I would definitely participate in the Zoom call meeting before you apply. That was super informative and is important to prepare for submitting your application.

They have been very very successful at helping so many folks in virtually all walks of life who through a variety of reasons have had to face difficult challenges. They have impacted a huge number of people across a wide spectrum.
Please continue to do the Zoom meetings for prospective applicants.
They're great to work with, and they understand that sometimes general funding works well for folks, giving them flexibility to meet and/or adapt to changing environments and challenges.
We have just submitted an application for a grant. We are asking funding for general support, not for a project, not for capital campaign
They do the best job they can at affording opportunities to folks to be well prepared and informed to submit applications that can achieve both their Foundation's and the applicant's goals.

The application is quite thorough and requires a lot of attachments (some that we had already, but many that we needed to create), so definitely start working on the application early.

Our program officer has always been very responsive to emails and questions.

I don't feel qualified to speak into their impact beyond our program.
The length of the application is overwhelming. I'd recommend editing the process to make it more streamlined for grantees.
The formality of the process, their high-end office space (if you ever visit in person), and the length of the application can make the process feel impersonal and imposing. I'd definitely recommend attending one of their helpful Q&A sessions before applying to help make the process feel more personal.
It is incredibly helpful that they are open to general operating grants. I also love that they send out other resources to grantees, such as opportunities for other funding.

Best to connect with a staff member at Cafritz to share organizational updates and learn more about their focus areas.

The volume of attachments requested by The Cafritz Foundation is significantly higher than most Foundations. While it does not represent a barrier to us, there are many worthwhile organizations who might see this as an insurmountable barrier to entry.
The funder is very communicative and supportive. They have responded to every inquiry in a thorough and timely manner.

We are extremely grateful to the Cafritz Foundation for its ongoing funding for arts and culture in the DC metro area. This application is meaty but allows great opportunity to tell a strong story about your organization and the need for support. And make sure you keep track of all of the required attachments!

I participated in the pre-grant meeting on 2/15 @ 10am and I am glad I did. It saved a lot of time and the information was throrough. I applied for a general ops grant for about 20% of my budget because I really need to be able hire a few folks part time and the funding will allow me to do that without pressure.

This funder supports general ops funding but only at 10%, if one's business is a start up or in its first year, a little more-maybe 20% of the ops budget would be helpful. We are opening our doors and want to stay open. All the funding grant periods are at different times, but no one wants to operate in the red or have to take loans or invest all their personal funds to stay afloat.
I believe they are fair and equitable in their choosing of grantees, I pray they stay that way-especially towards new missions and work that is being done for the wellness of the DMV area.
They have been in the philanthropy business a long time, trust the process and any advice they give.
Communicate. It is clear their funding agenda and the process of how to apply and be successful.
