Cafritz is a relationship-based funder first and foremost. Once they agree to fund an organization, they tend to give a little bit of money every year, over many years. Like many foundations, they care more about metrics than results. By this I mean that you have to have metrics, but they really don't have any clear guidelines for how to measure the performance of their grantees. So if you do get funded, keep the relationship strong. They'll fund even not-so-great organizations for many years if the relationship is a good one. Now under new leadership, it will be interesting to see how or if the foundation changes.

Once the relationship is established, project officers are very accessible. More than other foundations we've been funded by, they are great at helping groups to figure out a path to getting in the door.

They provide needed general support grants across a wide spectrum of organizations. So if those are their goals, they more than accomplish them. It's less clear that they have a specific strategy to transform any sector.
Get out of your silo. Work with other foundations to help address our region's many issues. I

I would recommend reducing the budget to actual reporting.
This funder really seeks to understand the challenges of the non-profit.
