Contact the grant program manager for the specific giving priority area under which you are applying. I have found their input and guidance to be quite helpful in navigating the grant request process.

Accounting details requests. Our small charity does not have an accountant but we had to become accountants to fulfill the accounting details that were requested. Philanthropies should trust charities to make social change a bit more likely.

I highly recommend you try to meet with one of their program officers ahead of time. The one I have been building a relationship with over the past couple of years does a great job of providing advice and recommendations for how to submit a compelling proposal based on our project. They are also always willing to answer questions. They have a keen understanding of what the reviewers are looking for. So their insight is always very helpful.

I wish the number of prospective grantees they accept compared to recurring grantees was higher. This makes it difficult for new prospective grantees to become partners despite having wonderful projects that align with their mission.
They do a really good job of providing you access to a program officer who can walk you through the grant process and even provide you constructive feedback on declined proposals.

The multiple separate financial document requests could be condensed which would make it easier and more efficient for the funder and for the applicants.
The funder does explain why you are or are not funded, which is very helpful for future requests.

My advice would be to get in touch with the funders and have a conversation with them. Not only are they kind to speak with, but they have insightful information about their grants.

Once we were able to speak directly with a program officer we felt more encouraged that the application would be taken seriously. The staff are clearly committed to making a difference.

It's best to cultivate positive relation ship with the funder. They are highly professional and among the few funders that really understand the need for general operating funding. It's not easy to get funded, but when that happens, this foundation support a long term relationship.

The staff is highly professional and truly invested in understanding applicants. it's not difficult to have sustained conversations going.
I am a new grantee so i should go through a full cycle before offering improvement suggestions.
if you don't succeed the first time you apply, and you are a good fit, don't be discouraged!
I believe this funder really does what they say they do

The staff at the Cafritz Foundation hold very helpful information sessions regularly throughout the year about the grant application process. I would encourage anyone who is considering applying to the foundation to attend one of these sessions as I found it to be very helpful.

The staff at the Cafritz Foundation were wonderfully responsive and followed up immediately by email and phone. I set up a phone call with one of their staff members to receive feedback on a past application, which they shared and which was very helpful.
