The Community First Foundation is open to lots of different ideas and flexible with aligning their priorities with non-profit needs. I would consider them the opposite of "rigid"

It's helpful to contact a representative of the foundation as you apply to ensure you understand the best approach to the application and what topics are most important to hit in the writing process. They are extremely friendly and supportive of your efforts as you apply!

The application was a bit convoluted in parts for the 'Hat's Off' grant we recently worked on... but overall the process was streamlined and organized, and we always remain grateful for the opportunities to apply as a Jeffco nonprofit!

While there is a flexibility built into many of your current grants that acts almost as gen ops funding, pure general operating funding/ grant applications would further CFF's commitment to aforementioned best practices.
They've done a great job of seeking to understand and apply best practices in foundation grantmaking, specifically around streamlining the application and reporting process and trusting that their nonprofit grantees know how to best use funding and will do so diligently.

Trust is critical to having a good relationship. Thanks for sharing your experience with us and we're glad you're feeling trusted.

We registered less than one week before the grant proposal deadline and Community First Foundation was very responsive and called us to let us know we were approved to submit an application. We were not able to register with "Catch A Fire" before the grant deadline, but that did not prevent us from submitting an application.

They want to have greater impact but they aren't necessarily tracking the data and are very prescriptive and narrow with their funding priorities.
Please provide greater amounts of flexible funding and allow for overlap between your funding priorities.
Excellent support from program officers.

Continue to keep the application process relatively easy. Not all nonprofits have a professional grant writer nor the time to spend long hours providing background info.
Provides a relatively easy application to use. Does not ask for info that is already on file and accessible through the nonprofit's profile on Colorado Gives. Thank you!!

I enjoyed the questions and felt like the staff supported our organization with cultural competency. This is important as a Native Woman Led Organization.

We don't believe in a cookie-cutter approach to grantmaking. You are correct. Every organization has very different and specific needs. And your feedback on cultural competency is meaningful as we are learning and growing in this area. Thank you.
