It's best to write to them in advance, making sure that your grant project idea aligns with their mission and fits eligibility. They are quick and wonderful to communicate with.

They really care about their community members, and like to fund programs that help those who need the help most.
Keep being a shining example of what great philanthropy looks like in a community.
They are so available and friendly, not only giving funding for great opportunities, but also inviting you to use their modern, stylish building for meetings. They make you feel like family.

I have found staff to be accessible, responsive and helpful. They got right back to me when I emailed a question about our eligibility. The grant process was easy, straightforward and had a fast turnaround time (this was for a COVID response grant).

They are responsive and very willing to provide assistance and guidance where needed. A comparably large staff, I have had positive interactions with everyone I've come in contact with.

Creates relationship: My goal as a fundraiser is to make a personal connection with funders, a particular challenge in some cases, but Community First Foundation seems to have a similar goal and does a great job of connecting with the organization it supports.

Community First in my experience seems to be both visionary and innovative. They see where puzzle pieces fit to solving problems and I think have both a wide angle lens and an ability to see through proposal ideas how to possibly get there.
Continuing to do what you do well. Good listening to proposal ideas (even outside the box) and helping fund first time applicants goes really far in helping non-profits get their missions off the ground
Take the time to learn about Community First and what they value. Set up a time to discuss your proposal idea and don't be afraid to ask good questions.
Great communication and very transparent.

The staff is highly knowledgeable of their funding areas. For us it was substance use disorder and the administrators were experts in the field. When you talk with them, know that you’re talking with experts - they already know the fundamentals, so stick to what your differentiation and value prop is with an understand that you don’t need to over explain it. They get it.

We were able to talk with them frequently and had a site visit during the process. We even had a meeting afterward to share how their grant helped us.

Again, they’re experts in their priority areas. They know what is needed and can sift through the masses of applications to find the differentiated organizations who truly provide value.
We would’ve been happy to provide you quarterly updates if you wanted them.
Clear priorities with the expertise to know how to properly fund those focus areas.

Save all of your information in a word doc as a back up. Be sure to copy and paste what you enter into the application site into a separate word document to keep for back up. I wish I had done so! I failed to hit the teeny-tiny, not-so-easy to find save button and lost all of my work as I was reviewing the application (I closed it to step away and come back with fresh eyes and realized right as I closed it that I hadn't hit save). I had to completely do the application over. Save yourself a headache and find the save button and use it frequently and keep a back up of the answers on a separate document!

Make the save button bigger and have it at other places on the application other than just at the end.
They do a wonderful job of supporting their mission but also pivoting to meet the needs of the community, especially during the COVID crisis.
They were easy to call up and responsive when I had questions.
They support local initiatives and keep money in the community.
